A Freeport man was sentenced Wednesday in Galveston federal court to 20 years in prison for possessing hundreds of images of child pornography.

Michael Jimenez Jr., 22, was sentenced to 240 months and 120 months in federal prison for the distribution and possession of child pornography and another 240 months for one count of receipt of child pornography, officials said.

The sentences will run concurrently, officials said.

Jimenez had initially pleaded guilty in the case in the U.S. District Court Southern District of Texas in Galveston on Jan. 25, 2017, officials said.

Federal officials arrested Jimenez after learning he had more than 650 images and 630 videos of child pornography and had been contacting underage girls online to request inappropriate images, officials said.
