The National Weather Service said the storm system could produced winds of more than 60 mph. A special marine warning was also issued that is in affect until 4 p.m. as the storms moved offshore.

The Clear Creek school district announced that dismissal of classes at Clear Creek High School was delayed until the severe weather past. Students started headed home at about 2:50 p.m.

"Parents of elementary students should expect delays on bus routes (because) we share buses between all levels," spokeswoman Elaina Polsen said.

Some streets in Texas City had minor flooding as the storms pushed through.
