The Texas Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting Tuesday to gather input about the design of a highway project on Interstate 45 between the Galveston Causeway and FM 1764.

The transportation department is proposing expanding the highway in that area to eight lanes, adding frontage roads with bicycle accommodations and sidewalks in some areas.

The work would encompass about 10 miles of the highway. The project would require 8.7 extra acres of right of way, which could displace three commercial properties.

The project is open for public comment until Feb. 21.

Today's meeting will begin with an open house from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. A public hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at La Marque High School, 397 Duroux Road, La Marque.
