A Dickinson man Wednesday was sentenced to six years deferred probation for hitting his roommate with a metal baseball bat in 2017.

Jerry Wayne Moses, 51, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault as part of a plea agreement, Assistant District Attorney Anthony Smith said. He was initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Smith said.

The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office responded in May 2017 to a report of an assault in the 900 block of 21st Street in San Leon, according to a probable cause affidavit.

A man who was bleeding from the head told police that his roommate, Moses, had hit him in the head with a metal baseball bat, according to the affidavit.

The roommate told police that Moses gets physically abusive while drunk, according to the affidavit.

Deputies then tried to speak with Moses, who barricaded himself and his girlfriend in a room and refused to come out, according to the affidavit.

Deputies then threw a pepper ball gun into the room and arrested Moses, according to the affidavit.
