Texas City police arrested a 27-year-old man after a fight at a gas station during which an officer was punched and an attempt was made take his taser.
At 4 a.m. Saturday, police were called to Omni Gas, 5904 FM 1765, because two men were fighting inside the gas station, authorities said. When police arrived they began questioning a 27-year-old man reportedly involved in the fight.
The man then lunged at officers and punched one in the face, police said. An officer struck the man with a taser, forcing him to the ground before putting him in handcuffs, police said. As officers attempted to place the man in the back of the police car he kicked an officer in the face and reached in handcuffs for the officer's taser, officials said.
On the way to the Texas City holding facility, the man kicked out the back window of the police unit, officers said. The police officer who was kicked in the face was treated and released from Mainland Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.
Police arrested La Marque resident Robert Lee Otis Clark. Clark was charged with assault on a public servant, attempt to take a weapon from an officer and resisting arresting. He was being held in the Galveston County Jail on a $132,500 bond.
