A 49-year-old man was found with a single gunshot wound to the chest after Texas City police responded to a report of a shooting early Sunday morning.

Texas City police responded to the call about 8:50 a.m. in the 1000 block of 25th Avenue N., finding a man who had been shot after an apparent argument with a family member, police said.

The victim, who is the nephew of the suspect, was alert and conscious at the scene and was transported to the University of Texas Medical Branch emergency room, said Kenneth Brown, spokesman for the Texas City Police Department.

The victim, who was later identified as Martin Torrez, was struck with a single shot to the upper right chest, Brown said.

A suspect, 55, was arrested without incident, Brown said. He is being interviewed by police and his name has not been disclosed.
