A 37-year-old man was killed Saturday afternoon after he apparently tried to rob a father and his toddler son, who were in the drive-thru of McDonald’s at the intersection of FM 518 and state Highway 3 in League City, police said.
Witnesses told investigators a man walked up to a Ford F-150 pickup truck and pointed a handgun at the driver about 2:10 p.m., police said.
The driver, who is a concealed handgun license holder, pulled out his handgun and shot the man multiple times, striking him in the chest, police said.
The 37-year-old man, whose name had not been released, was taken to Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, where he died, police said.
Neither the driver nor his 4-year-old son were injured during the shooting, police said. The mother picked up the boy, and the father was taken to the League City Police Department for questioning, police said. Detectives were still investigating the scene Saturday afternoon.
The case will be referred to a grand jury, police said.
