A La Marque man on Monday was sentenced to five years deferred probation for assaulting a man and trying to take his car keys at a Texas City High School parking lot.
Johnathan Leon Hodges, 19, pleaded guilty to one charge of robbery stemming from a May 2017 incident. He must serve 180 days in jail as a probation condition, Assistant District Attorney Anthony Smith said.
Texas City police arrested Hodges after they received a report of a robbery near the high school, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Hodges told police that a man “got in his space” and that he was the owner of the vehicle, according to the affidavit.
The victim told police that as he was leaving work at the school he saw Hodges standing next to his vehicle, according to the affidavit.
The victim told police that Hodges demanded keys to the car, hit him twice in the face and wrestled him to the ground, according to the affidavit.
The victim told police that Hodges pinned him to the ground and again demanded the keys, but the victim stalled him and said he didn’t have them, according to the affidavit.
The victim then ran away and called police, according to the affidavit.
Hodges also pleaded guilty to another unrelated count of assault causing bodily injury and was sentenced to a year in jail for that, Smith said.
