La Marque police were searching Tuesday for a robber after he tried to snatch a woman's purse Monday afternoon in the 2500 block of North Houston Drive near Lake Road.

Police were called to the neighborhood about 1:10 p.m. Monday when a woman reported a man had stopped a car, jumped out and attempted to grab her purse before fleeing.

The woman described the robber as a black man likely in his early 20s, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and slim, police said. He was wearing a red baseball cap with a red and white shirt and dark colored shorts. The car was described as a green or teal older sedan, police said.

The woman had just left a convenience store in the 2200 block of Cedar Drive and police suspect the man may have followed her from the store.

Police ask anyone with information to contact detective Arredondo at 409-938-9250 or La Marque Crime Stoppers at 409-938-8477.
