Eight Galveston County high school football teams enter the state UIL playoffs this week with eyes on the prize of bringing home a state championship.
In Class 6A, Division I, the District 24-6A champion Clear Springs Chargers (7-2 overall, 6-1 in district) will host the Pearland Oilers (5-3, 4-2 in District 23-5A) at Challenger Columbia Stadium for a bi-district round game 7 p.m. Friday.
Also in Class 6A-I bi-district action, the Dickinson Gators (7-2, 5-2) travel to the west side of Houston to take on the District 23-6A champion Alief Hastings Bears (6-2, 5-1) at 7 p.m. Friday at LeRoy Crump Stadium.
In the bi-district round of the Class 6A-II playoffs, the Friendswood Mustangs (7-3, 5-2) will face the Pearland Dawson Eagles (6-3, 4-2) at 7 p.m. Friday at The Rig in Pearland.
The Ball High Tors (5-4, 4-3 in District 23-5A) will enter the Class 5A-I bi-district playoffs with a home game at Kermit Courville Stadium against the Houston Austin Mustangs (7-1, 7-1 in District 24-5A) at 7 p.m. Friday.
In the Class 5A-II bi-district playoffs, the Texas City Stings (4-5, 4-3) will travel into enemy territory for their matchup against the Houston Waltrip Rams (8-0, 8-0) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Delmar Stadium on the northwest side of Houston.
Both the District 12-3A-I champion Hitchcock Bulldogs (6-3, 5-0) and La Marque Cougars (5-5, 3-2) qualified for the Class 3A-I playoffs. Hitchcock will play its bi-district opponent, the Trinity Tigers (3-7, 3-3 in District 11-3A-I), at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Waller ISD Stadium, while La Marque will face the Coldspring-Oakhurst Trojans (6-3, 5-1) 1 p.m. Saturday at Stallworth Stadium in Baytown.
In the six-man ranks, the High Island Cardinals (7-2, 3-1 in District 16-1A-I) are set for a Class 1A-I bi-district matchup 5 p.m. Friday with the Tioga Indians (9-1, 4-0 in District 15-1A-I) at Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
