Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has endorsed state Rep. Greg Bonnen's for his re-election bid.

“I am proud to endorse Greg for re-election and know that his commitment to conservative principles will further elevate and strengthen the Texas model of freedom," Abbott said Tuesday.

Bonnen, a Friendswood Republican, is running for re-election in Texas House District 24, which includes Friendswood, League City, Dickinson, Santa Fe and Hitchcock.

He was first elected in 2012. He ran unopposed for re-election in 2014, and has no declared challengers so far this year.

The endorsement was first reported by Quorum Report, a Texas government reporting website.
