A Dickinson High School teacher has resigned after allegations surfaced that he was having an inappropriate relationship with a student, school district officials said.
Dickinson Independent School District officials put the teacher on administrative leave Wednesday after the allegations were made and are cooperating with the League City Police Department in the investigation, said Tammy Dowdy, spokeswoman for the district.
A member of the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office School Liaison Office filed the report with the League City Police Department, said Kelly Williamson, spokesman for League City police.
The alleged incident took place between a 32-year-old male teacher and a 17-year-old student, Williamson said.
The district’s handbook bans employees from romantic or sexual relationships with students, even if they are consensual.
The district could not comment further on the details of the investigation or the identity of the teacher in question, Dowdy said.
The teacher has since resigned from the school, Dowdy said.
Neither the district nor the police department released a name of the teacher as of Monday afternoon.
