A Galveston County softball coach was arrested and charged with indecency with a child, after being accused of taking pictures of and inappropriately touching a 14-year-old girl.
On Nov. 27, 2017, a Galveston County Sheriff’s Office detective met with a female high school student. The teenager told detectives that the man had touched her in a sexual way while she was sleeping in his trailer during a visit, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by The Daily News.
The girl told police she had pretended to be asleep while the assault happened, according to the affidavit.
The next morning, the man made the girl take a shower, according to the affidavit.
The girl reported the incident to her parents, who called the police.
After a week of investigation, the complaint was presented to the Galveston County District Attorney’s office, which recommended charges.
Shane Brinegar was arrested and charged with indecency with a child, sexual contact on Dec. 22, 2017. His bond was set at $40,000. He was no longer in custody at the jail on Thursday.
On Thursday, the Bayshore Youth Sports Association confirmed that Brinegar was once a softball coach for the association’s softball program. Association President Jessica Blythe said Brinegar last coached for the program in July 2017.
The complaint against Brinegar does not involve any softball players, Blythe said.
