TEXAS CITY

Scammers have been calling residents claiming to be fundraising for the Texas City Firefighters Association and Fire Department, police reported Thursday.

The callers asked for donations and for banking and credit card information, police said. Neither the Texas City Firefighters Association nor the fire department solicits donations, authorities said. Texas City police cautioned residents to refuse to disclose personal information to anyone calling on the behalf of the association or department.

Police also asked residents who receive these phishing phone calls to call 409-948-2525.
