One man was jailed and another hospitalized in critical condition early Sunday after an argument at a Clear Lake Shores IHOP restaurant led to gunfire.

Paul Jesse Schonier, 40, was been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection to the shooting, police said. His bond is set at $50,000, records show.

Clear Lake Shores police received a report of an argument between two groups of customers that began at about 3 a.m. at an IHOP on FM 2094, Police Chief Kenneth Cook said.

Employees eventually asked both groups to leave, Cook said.

Schonier is accused of leaving the restaurant before everyone else, returning with a handgun and firing an undisclosed number of shots through a glass door at the business, striking another man once in the head, Cook said.

The 26-year-old victim was taken to Clear Lake Regional Medical Center. Schonier was taken into custody at the scene, Cook said.
