Galveston police Wednesday were looking for the person who stole a maroon Scion automobile and left an infant in a parking lot late Monday, officials said.

Police received a call about a stolen car about 7:20 p.m. Monday from the 3000 block of Broadway, Galveston Police Capt. Joshua Schirard said.

The owners of the vehicle told police that they were unloading laundry from the car when an unknown person got in the unlocked and running car and drove away, Schirard said.

The couple’s infant child was in the car at the time of the incident, Schirard said.

Police searching the area received another call about a baby left in a parking lot in the 4800 block of Broadway, Schirard said.

Police responded to the parking lot and found the infant still in the carseat and unharmed, Schirard said.

Police on Wednesday were still looking for an unknown number of people in connection to the incident, Schirard said.

“There are no known suspects at this point,” Schirard said.

Officers are asking anyone with information about the incident to call 409-765-3702, Schirard said.

When, oh when, are people going to stop leaving their keys in the car?
Aside from make incidents like this possible, it's unsafe and wastes fuel. It's also illegal.
