A Houston man was sentenced Thursday to two years in prison in connection with the September 2016 sexual assault of a 16-year-old League City girl.

A Galveston County jury found Luis Fernando Lerma, 21, guilty on one count of sexual assault of a child, Assistant District Attorney Anthony Smith said.

Lerma and the girl came into contact via a cellphone application and began communicating in 2016, Smith said.

The girl eventually invited Lerma to her house in League City, Smith said.

The victim told police that while at the residence, Lerma began making advances and, after she told him to stop, he proceeded to remove her clothes and sexually assault her, Smith said.

Lerma will be eligible for parole after serving half of his sentence, Smith said.

He will be required to register as a sex offender for life upon his release, Smith said.
