Gay Family Auto employees planned a barbecue Friday to raise money for a manager who was shot six times during a dispute with an employee.

“Our employees, customers and vendors have been asking how they could help the family, so we decided to put this benefit together,” said Kevin Lardie, general manager.

Friendswood resident Joshua Allen Lee, 29, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the shooting of Michael Pavlas, 38, of Alvin.

Pavlas survived being shot several times with a large-caliber handgun Jan. 1 during a dispute about Lee’s work hours, police said.

Pavlas is at home recovering, officials said.

Pavlas, a father of two, had been a manager at the body shop in the 3000 block of Interstate 45 for about two years and two months, said Heather Pavlas, his wife.

The fundraiser and raffle are set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the dealership, Lardie said.
