A 2-year-old child has been taken to an area hospital by air ambulance after being found floating in a swimming pool, authorities said.

A grandmother found the child, whose gender was not stated, face down in the pool at home this morning, the Galveston County Sheriff's Office said.

The child’s medical condition is unknown, officials said.

Deputies went to a home on 32nd Street in Galveston County near Sante Fe and saw the grandparents administering CPR to the child, deputies said.

Emergency medical personnel arrived and called for a Life Flight helicopter to transport the child to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

The grandfather told deputies he put a movie on around 7:30 a.m. this morning for the boy to watch, police said. He walked away and when he returned, he discovered the child missing. Both grandparents immediately started searching the backyard, and the grandmother found the child in the pool, police said.

The grandmother retrieved the child from the pool, and the grandfather called 911.
