GALVESTON

Police were searching Tuesday for a woman who set a Galveston man on fire earlier in the day.

Emergency responders were called about 6 a.m. to the 500 block of 21st Street by a person who said he had just been set ablaze.

Responders found a man with burns on his hands and his face. His clothes were still aflame. Police said the attacker may have used some sort of accelerant to help in the attack.

The fire was extinguished, and the man was taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch. His injuries were serious, but not life-threatening, police said. His identity was not released.

Police collected evidence at the scene, and a suspect has been identified in the attack, Galveston Police Capt. Josh Schirard said. The woman had a "previous relationship" with the man, Schirard said, but more details have not been released.

The woman has not yet been arrested, but police expect to charge someone soon, Schirard said.
