A 23-year-old woman was injured in a shooting at a Friendswood apartment complex Sunday morning, police said. The man suspected of shooting her was taken into custody after trying to flee from police.

The incident happened in the 5000 block of FM 2351 at about 8:40 a.m., Friendswood Police Department spokeswoman Lisa Price said.

The suspect in the shooting was a visitor at the victim’s apartment when her boyfriend, who also lived in the apartment, came home, Price said.

The suspect and the boyfriend began arguing and then got into a fight, Price said. At some point in that fight, the suspect got hold of a pistol, Price said. During the struggle, the gun fired and struck the woman in the abdomen, Price said.

The suspect left the apartment in a car after the shooting, as police were arriving. Officers chased him west on FM 2351, eventually crossing the Brazoria County line, where the road changes to County Road 129.

During the chase, the man lost control of his car, drove into a ditch and hit a telephone pole, Price said.

After crashing, the man was involved in a short standoff with police. The man left his car, but did not obey police commands, Price said. At one point, he went back toward the car and reached for something, Price said.

At that point, a police dog was used to take the man into custody, Price said. No shots were fired by police nor the suspect during the arrest, Price said.

A 21-years-old Houston man was taken into custody at 9:11 a.m. Charges against him were not immediately available, Price said. He was still in custody at the Friendswood Police Department on Sunday afternoon.

The woman was taken to Clear Lake Regional Hospital in Webster. Her condition was not available Sunday afternoon.
