A Galveston woman was killed in a three-car accident on Broadway in Galveston on Saturday after the car she was driving was hit by a wrong-way driver’s vehicle early in the morning.
The crash happened around 1 a.m. in the 6300 block of Broadway, according to the Galveston Police Department.
Police received a call about a wrong-way driver in the inbound lanes of Interstate 45 minutes before the crash.
The woman was driving a Honda Pilot, which was hit head-on by the wrong-way driver’s vehicle, police said.
She was taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch, where she later died. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle, an 85-year-old man, was also taken to the medical branch, but he was expected to survive. His condition was not available on Sunday afternoon.
The driver of the wrong-way vehicle may have been suffering from a medical issue that contributed to him having being in the wrong lane of traffic, police said.
A third vehicle crashed into the other two after the initial collision. The driver of that vehicle was also taken to the medical branch with nonlife threatening injuries.
No charges have been filed over the crash, and police did not identify the woman on Sunday.
