LEAGUE CITY

An attempted robbery at a League City CVS pharmacy Tuesday evening ended with a police officer killing a suspect in a nearby subdivision, officials said.

League City police responded to a report of a robbery at a CVS store, 1295 E. League City Parkway, about 5:20 p.m, spokesman Kelly Williamson said.

Police pursued a man to the 1600 block of Laslina Lane in the nearby Tuscan Lakes subdivision, just across Egret Bay Drive from the CVS.

When a League City police officer approached, the man attempted to take the officer’s gun, Galveston County Sheriff Henry Trochesset said. The League City Police Department asked the sheriff’s office to assist in the investigation of its officer, Trochesset said.

An altercation ensued, Trochesset said. It ended with the officer in possession of the gun, which he fired at the man, Trochesset said.

The man was killed at the scene, Trochesset said.

The man apparently had dropped a metal pipe while fleeing the CVS, Trochesset said.

League City officers had been provided with a detailed description of the man, Trochesset said.

Officials would not confirm the name of the man or the police officer on Tuesday evening.

The Galveston County District Attorney’s Office was also at the scene of the shooting.
