GALVESTON

Authorities on Saturday still had many unanswered questions about the body of a young boy found near Stewart Beach on Friday afternoon.

Officials did not yet know who the boy was or why he died, Capt. Joshua Schirard said.

"We have not identified him or his family," Schirard said, adding that the autopsy is still pending.

A person walking near Stewart Beach found the body in the surf around 5:35 p.m. Friday and called authorities, Schirard said. Police suspected the boy was between the ages of 3 and 5 years old, he said. Police had few clues about his identity. He was described as white.

On Saturday, police had not yet found a missing person's report filed in Galveston or surrounding counties matching the boy's description, Schirard said.

The Galveston Police Department was asking anyone that may have any information concerning this case to call the police department at 409-765-3702 or Galveston County Crime Stoppers at 409-763-8477.
