The Texas Association for Bilingual Education conference will kick off with its free pre-conference Parent Institute from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Moody Gardens Hotel and Convention Center, 1 Hope Blvd.

The Parent Institute will provide information about accessing educational opportunities for students. Networking with other attendees about empowering parents to become leaders in their school districts and their communities will also be a focus. Registration is free and lunch will be provided.

The conference will feature well-known researchers in the area of bilingual education such as Cheryl Urow, and Drs. Graciela Tiscareño-Soto and Ofelia García.

The Texas Association for Bilingual Education pursues the implementation of educational policies and effective bilingual-bicultural programs that promote equal educational opportunity and academic excellence for bilingual/ESL students.

The conference will have over 100 exhibits and over 180 sessions and will begin Thursday and conclude Saturday.
