Galveston County commissioners Monday unanimously approved a project that will place new lights and fencing at Gregory Park in Crystal Beach on the Bolivar Peninsula.

Commissioners voted 5-0 to approve $113,880 in contracts to two companies for work on the field near the intersection of Barbados Drive and state Highway 87.

The county will now negotiate with the two companies the bids were awarded to, officials said. Once that is done, work will start on the fields.

Julie Diaz, Galveston County's director of Parks and Cultural Services, said that depending on how long it takes to finalize contracts, construction may not start until after the Texas Crab Festival, which will be held today at Gregory Park.
