A nonprofit organization sponsored by Houston Texan J.J. Watt recently made an almost $20,000 donation to a Texas City Independent School District middle school.

“Congratulations to Blocker Middle School … for receiving our $19,996.57 donation for its football, tennis and track teams,” the foundation announced on Twitter Monday.

The Justin J. Watt Foundation, according to its website, aims to raise money for middle schools in Wisconsin and Texas that do not have enough funding for athletic programs.

Texas City ISD Athletic Director Leland Surovik applied for a grant from the foundation and then found out Monday that the donation had been made, said Melissa Tortorici, spokeswoman for the district.

“We applied for La Marque Middle School, too, and we are thinking we’ll know next month on that one,” Tortorici said.
