TEXAS CITY — Police said a man who is charged with running a red light slammed into a motorcycle Thursday night, seriously injuring the couple riding the bike.

The accident happened at about 9 p.m. at FM 1765 and state Highway 146.

Sidney Cammeresi and Theresa Masone were headed north on state Highway 146 when a Chrysler 300 hit the bike.

Police said, based on witness reports, the man driving the Chrysler ran the red light. Cammeresi of Texas City and Masone, who lives in La Porte, were taken by helicopter to UTMB Health’s John Sealy Hospital, where each was listed as a trauma patient, Texas City Police Capt. Goetschius said.

The driver of the Chrysler told police that the light was yellow and not red, Goetschius said.

But police believe the witnesses’ accounts.

Edward Scott, 36, of Texas City, was charged with driving a vehicle without a license, failure to maintain insurance and running a red light. Police reports indicate that the car, which had temporary paper license tags, belonged to Scott’s sister.

God bless you both, and i hope they throw the book at this guy. Probably in a hurry for something that didnt even matter and now you ruined two lives.

This is great. Scum bag destroys the lives of two people and all he gets is 3 class C misdemeanors put on him.

So Edwards sister let him drive her car w/o him having a license, obviously dumb on her part. How did she buy a car without insurance? how's that legal?

Edwards' sister may very well have had insurance. However, the liability policy would only cover him if she had included him on her policy. Collision coverage is for the car and liability covers the driver. Texas law only requires liability (and way too low of limits, at that). I'm sure she's going to be a defendant in any civil suits. Would be great if she could get some criminal liability, too.

Hope sister gets in big, big trouble!!! No doubt she was Aware he had no license.
