Emergency personnel closed a section of FM 519 in La Marque on Monday after a company hit a natural gas line while drilling for a water pipeline, officials said.

The road was closed between state Highway 146 and state Highway 3 from about 9:30 a.m. through midafternoon, officials said.

Around 9:30 a.m. Monday, a company called in a leak at a natural gas line that occurred while they were digging for another pipeline, interim La Marque Fire Chief William Reed said. The gas leak prompted emergency crews to close FM 519 between State Highway 146 and State Highway 3, he said.

There was no danger to the public, he said. Officials from CenterPoint and Texas Department of Transportation were on the scene Monday, as well as firefighters from La Marque Fire Department.
