Young spellers from schools across Galveston competed in the Rotary Club of Galveston’s annual Citywide Fifth-Grade Spelling Bee at the Rosenberg Library in Galveston on Thursday.

Meah Bordelon, a fifth-grader from Ambassadors Preparatory Academy, claimed the title by correctly spelling the word “carnival.” Finishing in second place was Isabella Trevino of Austin Middle School Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Magnet. Third place went to Isabella Wisner of Trinity Episcopal School.
