A long-awaited new road opens Wednesday at the notorious Five Corners in League City.
Construction at the awkward junction of FM 518, FM 2094 and FM 270 — commonly called Five Corners — that began in September 2016 should be fully complete in March, city officials said.
The new service road will open to motorists Wednesday, but the remaining sidewalk ramp and median work on FM 270 will begin after the new service road opens, according to the city.
City crews will activate new traffic signals at the Five Corners site from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., depending on the weather.
During the activation period, the traffic signals will flash red lights, and crews will close alternating lanes as they work on the signals and repaint the road, officials said.
The work will cause traffic delays in the area, and city officials advise motorists take alternative routes.
