Almost 2,700 people gathered at the Moody Gardens Convention Center on Sunday to celebrate Mardi Gras. The 32nd annual Mardi Gras Ball for Special People gives people with mental and physical disabilities, along with their families and caregivers, a space to experience Mardi Gras in a safe environment. The ball provided music, food and Mardi Gras accessories and other entertainment throughout the day. Disney, “Star Wars” and Marvel characters also made appearances, posing for photos and joining in to dance. Members of Z Krewe also were on hand to pass out hundreds of strands of beads to attendees.
