Smelly bank robbery suspect taken into custody
Police on Monday booked Charles Perry Nix into the Friendswood City Jail after a four-day search to find the suspected bank robber, a Friendswood Police Department spokeswoman said.
Nix, 50, of El Campo, was wanted for at least four bank robberies and had six felony warrants out for his arrest from several counties, including Bastrop, Gonzales and Fayette, police spokeswoman Lisa Price said.
Nix is also the suspect in a Dec. 21 robbery at Texan Bank at 105 E. Parkwood in Friendswood, she said.
On Dec. 21, 2017, a man walked into the Texas Bank and handed a letter to the teller that made it seem he had a gun, police said. He left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash, and drove away in “beat up” blue car, police said.
Witnesses told police that the man smelled of cigarettes, stale beer and body odor.
Friendswood police and a Texas Ranger found Nix at a southwest Houston residence, Price said.
The Sealy Police Department in Austin County already has filed a bank robbery charge with a $100,000 bond, Price said.
The Friendswood bank robbery charge hasn’t been filed because the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office was closed Tuesday because of weather, Price said.
