The Gulf Coast Center will host an event Saturday to commemorate World AIDS Day.

The event will include speakers, a panel discussion and an appearance by featured performer Daniel Bauer, the HIV-positive magician and escape artist who is the only magician in the country officially to hold the title “Successor to Harry Houdini.”

The event will take place in the auditorium at College of the Mainland, 1200 Amburn Road, Texas City.

The program begins at 6 p.m. with a coffee reception to follow. Admission is free to the public, and more information about the event is available by calling the Gulf Coast Center at 409-763-2373.

“World AIDS Day is an opportunity for all people to unite in the fight against HIV, show support for people living with HIV, commemorate people who have succumbed to the virus and to be educated on HIV and the stigmas that are associated with this disease,” Rosalind Meeks Crockett, a case manager at Gulf Coast Center, said.
