HITCHCOCK — There was a day of rain and the winds were strong, but those in charge of the 76th annual Galveston County Fair and Rodeo are happy with this year’s turnout.
Fair Coordinator Melondy Bender, who has been working with the fair since 1993, said other than
the rain on April 6, the weather was kind, which helps with attendance.
“I think we also had an awesome entertainment line up that has helped bring people in,” Bender said. “The fair just overall is fun for a lot of families and they look forward to it each year.”
Fair President Paul Tibaldo also is pleased with the turnout.
“The crowds have been really good, and it’s been very family oriented.”
Tibaldo said he’s heard positive feedback about the new events at the fair like Boots N’ Wine and Mexican bull fighting, but is especially proud of the livestock aspect of the fair.
“The kids did excellent jobs showing their animals, and the auction went really well,” he said.
Bender said overall this year’s fair ran smoothly and that plans already are in place for next year.
“Some things have already been done for 2015. You’re always planning for the future,” she said.
Bender and Tibaldo both said that next year will be bigger and better.
“That’s something you’ve come to expect,” Bender said.
