Divabud John Dundee sez they got the immediate family together and had a small surprise party for his mom Joyce Dundee at Shearn’s.

Here goes the inside skinny on a great party for a great lady. Joyce, a local legend, was celebrating her 90th.

Loving daughter-in-law and best friend Becky Dundee, wife of John, made all the arrangements and swore everyone to secrecy.

Her co-conspirators, Vivian Serio Renfrow and Gene Lucas, brought the incredible talents of Chef Urs Schmidt and staff to bear, which ensured a successful event.

Becky suggested lucky guests bring photo albums instead of traditional gifts. Joyce, now retired after 64 years of service to the Moody family’s hotel company, loves to sit in her garden and reflect upon such treasures.

She was truly surprised and genuinely touched by her family’s show of love and respect for her. In attendance were Joyce’s grandson Dr. Ben and his lovely wife Bryanne Dundee of Austin.

Ben invested in a new startup company with Bryanne teaching theater arts to disadvantaged children. Granddaughter Jennifer and husband Pat Reeder, also from Austin, were unable to attend.

Joyce’s daughter and Ursuline girl Patricia Dundee Hughes of Ocean City, Md., flew in to join nieces Claire “Buster” Doherty Conti, Ann “Tootie” Doherty Grasso and husband Donny, Mary Ellen Doherty Peters and Gary, nephew Mike and Weez Doherty, Danny and Robin Dundee.

Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus are hitting the high seas again in 2015. The five-day cruise aboard the Carnival Triumph will leave on Feb. 28 and stop in Cozumel and Progresso along the way.

For those of you who are apprehensive about a return to Cozumel, here’s two suggestions: There is a ferry right in town and it’s only a 45-minute ride to Playa del Carmen.

Fifth Avenue in Playa has so many things to do — shops, restaurants and bars galore. It makes for a nice change of scenery.

There’s also Mr. Sancho’s beach, which is a 10-minute taxi ride from the pier. You pay an all-inclusive entrance fee to the beach, which includes drinks and food.
