LEAGUE CITY — Five animal shelters are coming together for the second annual Paws & Claws Adopt-a-Thon from 10 a.m. t o 4 p.m. Aug. 16 and noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 17 at the League City Civic Center, 400 West Walker St., in League City.

There will be hundreds of adoptable animals to choose from. Last year, 80 animals were adopted in one day, which is why the event was expanded to two days this year.

Friendly dogs, big and small, young, mature and playful will be waiting for you. There will be scads of cats of all colors and personalities.

From the sidekick who follows you around to the clown that entertains you to some lap cats and some who never slow down.

Summer is when the most animals come into the animal shelters and the slowest adoption time resulting in many animals being put down.

If you have a pet now and can make room for another pet, you can bring joy and life to a homeless animal. The goal is to empty the shelters.

The $25 adoption fee includes sterilization, rabies vaccination and microchip. Approved adopters can take their new pet home that day.

Also available will be $11 rabies vaccinations, lots of pet information, boarding, grooming, fun and food.

Vendors and volunteers are still needed. Contact Jasmine Honore at 281-554-1377 or jasmine.honore@leaguecity.com.
