The 18th annual Yaga’s Wild Game BBQ Cookoff benefiting the Yaga’s Children’s Fund will be held May 9-10 at Pier 21.

The state legislature declared Yaga’s Wild Game Cookoff the Official Wild Game Cook-off in the Texas.

The two-day, family oriented event kicks off May 9 at the sponsor party.

Festivities include live music, a fabulous fajita buffet, libations, a $10,000 raffle, a chance to preview cooking teams from around the state and the best silent auction items you’ll see anywhere.

Tickets for the sponsor party are $75 per person and are available at the Big Brothers Big Sisters office at 1413 Tremont, from any participating children’s charity or at the gate. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 10, festivalgoers of all ages can stroll through rows of smoking pits competing in five cooking divisions.

Admission is free. Cook-off attendees can eat, relax and enjoy great live music throughout the day.

Guests can purchase barbecue dinner tickets for $8 from Big Brothers Big Sisters, prepared by the Lighthouse Cook Team. The cook-off is family friendly and offers a giant, free kids area with moon walks, face painters, pony rides and a variety of other activities.

Gulf Coast BBBS has been a beneficiary of the cook-off since its inception in 1997.

The grant money the agency receives from this event has enabled them to grow and expand their mentoring programs so that they can match more children with caring adult role models.
