Anglers and boaters eager to use a new public park and boat ramp on 61st Street in Galveston will have to wait a little longer.
In a game filled with big plays, it was Texas City that came up with the biggest ones on Friday night at Stingaree Stadium. The Stings had four scoring plays of 20 yards or more to hold off the Santa Fe Indians, 38-21, in a clash of District 23-5A and county rivals.
It was a record-breaking night for the Friendswood Mustangs as they rolled over the Clear Falls Knights in Friday’s District 24-6A game, 84-8.
The schooner America, a replica of the fabled racing yacht that coined the phrase America's Cup, will visit Galveston late next month.

This is a photo of the cargo ship Summer Wind as it was anchored near the Houston Ship Channel two weeks ago. A federal judge ordered the ship to be seized as part of a federal lawsuit into its part in a collision near the Texas City Dike that spilled more than 168,000 gallons of heavy fuel oil into Galveston Bay on March 22.
