  • In 1989, it was wait and see for Galveston emergency management personnel as Hurricane Chantal eyed the upper Texas and western Louisiana coasts. City officials, however, eventually said they did not believe Chantal would have a major impact on the city.
  • In 1989, the skies above Silbernagel Elementary in Dickinson were filled with balloons released by its students to celebrate the 100th day of school. Tucked inside each balloon was the name of a student, his or her address, and a message explaining in the student’s own words what the 100th Day of School Celebration was all about.
