  • In 1914, the Dilapidated Building Committee was instructed to investigate housing conditions on the island.
  • In 1964, a 7-year-old struck by a city bus at the corner of 25th Street and Avenue Q was released from John Sealy Hospital after being treated for a bruised ankle.
  • In 1989, a pair of car-accident victims from Houston left John Sealy Hospital before they could be examined, a hospital spokeswoman said. They had been injured when the Ford Pinto they were in flipped while going southbound on Teichman Road after exiting Interstate 45. The car ended up about 40 feet off the road in waist-high weeds.
  • In 1989, a reunion with friends turned into a nightmare for a Baytown man. The man, 28, told police he went to sleep with a friend after a night of drinking. He awoke to find the room full of people then was beaten unconscious and robbed of $600.
