  • In 1914, contracts were awarded by the Galveston school board to build two buildings.
  • In 1914, Port of Galveston receipts for the quarter showed an 80 percent increase over the year. 
  • In 1964, more than 1,000 people were in the opening night audience for “South Pacific” at the Moody Center.
  • In 1989, the heavy rains in Galveston County not only caused damage because of flooding, but helped give birth to another problem. Large ditches and fields of standing water were a time bomb waiting to explode billions of mosquitoes.
