In 1914, the residence of C.A. Holt, 3214 Avenue J, was struck by lightening during a storm.

In 1914, Rex Beach, a novelist, playwright and Olympic water polo player, was in Texas to write the history of the Texas ranger force. Beach wrote his first novel in Galveston.

In 1964, Alford Froberg was seeing larger crowds arriving at his farm to pick strawberries. Some days between 500 and 600 came to Froberg Farms in Alvin.

In 1989, Texas natural gas suppliers were hoping Exxon’s Alaskan oil spill would prompt more offshore exploration and development of America’s “clean fuel.”
