• In 1914, the wheat export for the Port of Galveston surpassed the million-bushel mark.

• In 1964, Galveston County Sheriff’s officers were searching for a 25-year-old Alta Loma man accused of raping a Texas City girl.

• In 1989, the Scholes Field aviation director said Galveston-area aircraft pilots and passengers would be safer if the Federal Aviation Administration built the control tower recommended by an air safety investigator.

• In 1989, the Galveston Municipal Police Association submitted 13 initial proposals to the city to open the latest negotiations on a collective bargaining contract.
