  • In 1914, Galveston Chief of Police William H. Perrett urged passage of a law that would make it a felony punishable by up to five years in the state penitentiary for any person to sell cocaine.
  • In 1964, mock war exercises were conducted by officers and troops of the First Battalion, 23rd Marine Reserves on the East Beach of Galveston Island.
