- In 1914, a telegram from a congressional committee in Washington arrived in Galveston that announced the approval of $1.185 million for an extension of the seawall.
- In 1964, police were looking “high and low” for 20 ring neck dove reported stolen from the backyard cage of a Galveston home.
- In 1989, a two-alarm fire at The Hotel Galvez injured two people and seriously damaged three floors of the historic building in Galveston. The fire chief said it was definitely a case of arson.
