HITCHCOCK — It’s the second year the Galveston County Fair and Rodeo will have a Tejano night and the first time the fair will feature a woman headliner.
Sunny Sweeney will be gracing the fair’s entertainment stage Saturday night and the fair’s Entertainment Superintendent Anthony Cappadona said he is excited to have her be the first female headliner.
“It’s the 75th year, lets change it up some,” he said of why the fair booked Sweeney.
The young and talented Sweeney grew up in Longview and she takes her East Texas accent with her, including to the recent the Academy of Country Music Award show where she was nominated for the Best New Female Artist Award.
Cappadona said Sweeney would be a great addition to the fair’s entertainment lineup, especially since so many of the majority of the fair’s Facebook followers are women.
Another sure bet is the return of Grupo Vida for the fair’s second year of Tejano night.
“It turned out really good last year,” Cappadona said.
And with Grupo Vida, you are getting a Tejano band than can span the range of music from Elvis covers to country music. The members of Grupo Vida even have released a country album under the name The Electric Cowboys.
“They are awesome at what they do and they are super nice guys on top of that,” Cappadona said.
