TEXAS CITY — After three days at the Charles T. Doyle Convention Center, the Texas City “Y” Unified Command is on the move again. Most of the command’s assets are set to move to the Galveston Island Convention Center early this morning.

The joint information center will remain at the Doyle Center until phones can be set up at the island’s convention center, Texas City Emergency Management Coordinator Bruce Clawson said.

“This is a natural progression of things as we see the oil leave this area and moves to the southwest,” Clawson said.

Initially the command center was set up at the U.S. Coast Guard’s Marine Safety Unit near Interstate 45 in West Texas City.

When more than 200 people showed up to work, there wasn’t enough space, so on Monday the command center moved to the Doyle Center.
