Mardi Gras Galveston 2014 got off to a nice start on Friday.

The night began with the presentation of the George P. Mitchell Mardi Gras Award to George and Sherry Black.

The Blacks are founding members of the Krewe of Gambrinus the second oldest Galveston Krewe.

The Gambrinus folks are marking the 25th anniversary with their annual parade on Saturday. There's a new route and also another change, the floats will all have the same silver anniversary theme.

The new parade route takes the procession to downtown.
