It's good to see the online version of this paper use the term "illegal immigrants" as opposed to the hard copy of today's paper which refers to undocumented or illegal immigrants as "illegal aliens." I thought we has moved beyond that highly offensive term. The issue of undocumented immigrants is socially complex. The least we can do is give these human beings the courtesy of being considered human.

Albert Redmond

There is no dispute that they are human, but the laws as written and which are currently on the books, define any person that enters this country unlawfully, i.e., not within the strict confines of the law, as an illegal alien. These laws have not been repealed, but rather are not being enforced.

Lisa Blair

Even better, let's call them what they really are "refugees seeking asylum".

Jake Linkey

Bottom line..ILLEGAL, millions and millions of people have come to the U.S LEGALLY , follow the process

Lisa Blair

They have turned themselves in to ICE and are following the due process of the current Bush-era immigration laws. If they wanted to continue to be illegal they would not have turned themselves in. In most cases they are seeking asylum from violence in their home countries. If they are not considered appropriate for asylum they will be deported. It's really not that hard to understand if you get past the fear mongering.

Chris Gimenez

It's not fear-mongering, it's the facts. They're criminals who are taking advantage of the illegal conduct of our boy president and it's already been proven that 90% of them will not show up in court for deportation hearings.

Illegal aliens=illegal refugees seeking asylum=illegal immigrants=illegal democrats.

The boy president will use these criminals to fundamentally change this country as they have no ties to our history, no desire to learn our language and customs, and will overpopulate our country while sucking up our tax dollars.

Carlos Ponce

lisablair, the Bush-era bill was designed to handle at most 15,000 illegal per year, not the 47,000 we've gotten so far. And that number is climbing. The word is spreading through Central America that President Obama has opened the door. This past weekend I heard on the news that the children now want to go home to Central America. Mama y papa are not in the United States waiting for them. They were given a story to give to American authorities but now have recanted that STORY. What we need to do is reunite them with their parents in Central America.
"No I would not give you false hope, On this strange and mournful day
But the mother and child reunion, Is only a motion away"

"Reunited and it feels so good, Reunited 'cause we understood
There's one perfect fit, And, sugar, this one is it"

Kevin Lang

The Bush-era bill wasn't designed for anything. Just like most of the gobbledygook immigration and border security bills that have been passed in the past 40 years. Just one more of the many placebo bills that Congress and our presidents have passed to make us think they're working the problem, and really interested in solving things. Take this bill, and call us next term.

Carlos Ponce

kevjlang, the Bush era Bill was designed to stop Child sex trafficking.

Kevin Lang

I'm talking about the numbers. Even if it was designed for a specific capacity, that's an extremely short-sighted approach to ANY problem. You can certainly set an initial capacity, but you also have to design for scalability. Otherwise, you're planning nothing more than a short-term placebo.

Kim Etheridge

Here are some FACTS, not fear mongering, these illegal people are bringing antibiotic resistant TB, whooping cough, MRSA, lice, scabies and all kinds of viruses. We're putting them on planes and buses and scattering them to the four winds. They will be receiving better medical care than we aren't giving to our own Veterans - and that's a fact.

George Croix

Those DNC talking points are a hoot...
Evidently, according to them, violence in central America is a new phenomenon, and these 'refugees' are only by coincidence coming here now to escape this 'new' violence...Obama's DACA of 2012 (some even call it defacto amnesty...) has nothing at all to do with it...pure coincidence...
Let's see, blaming Bush must be good for, what, another 30 months or so...at least....[lol][rolleyes]

PD Hyatt

Why is our so called president NOT obeying our laws and securing the borders so that this criminal illegals that is invading our nation can be stopped. Why is it that so many of the demoncrats still support this law breaking president and his AG Holder who only follow the laws that they like and write EO's to make new ones....

This nation might be able to survive this president and be able to undo his stupid and foolish EO's, what we might not be able to survive is all of the foolish people who still support him and will support the next leftist president who will give them all that they want.
What many of these people do not understand is that a government that is big enough to give you all that you want is also big enough to take everything that you have.

PD Hyatt

Way to go LC.... It seems as if you are the ONLY city in our county that is standing up for what is right. You have stood up for prayer and now you are standing up against criminal illegals and our president who is breaking our laws.

Centerpointe Moderator

I request that LC craft an additional, complementary resolution which reads as follows:

That no building permit shall henceforth be issued in this city to any developer, construction company, property owner, or any subcontractor of same, unless it is first confirmed through an independent auditor that the E-Verify system of employment eligibility confirmation is used at all levels of the construction contracting process.

I challenge LC to embrace wholeheartedly that provision for the sake of their own internal consistency, integrity, and the simple believe-ability of their very public stance on immigration matters.

Do you think they'll do it?? Or do you think that maybe it's more likely that LC, like just about every other entity in Texas, would prefer to continue to have their illegal cake and eat it, too? That they would like to enjoy the up-side of illegal immigration (including the cheapest residential, commercial, and municipal construction rates in the nation - great property tax fodder, that stuff!) *without* the predictable imposition of having to deal with the corresponding down-side (out-of-control responsive migration)?

US Constitution: Article I, Section 10 -- No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, UNLESS ACTUALLY INVADED, or in such IMMINENT DANGER as will not admit of delay. ---
Texas, invoke this clause. It recalls back to State jurisdiction the duty of defense of State citizens lives, liberties and property.
US Constitution; Article IV, Section 4---The United States shall GUARANTEE TO EVERY STATE IN THIS UNION a Republican Form of Government, and SHALL PROTECT EACH OF THEM AGAINST INVASION; ... ---
Obama and the Federal government have abdicated. They refuse to protect. They will not protect. Texas is being invaded without protection. It is the duty of the State to now protect.
Invoke US Constitution: Article I, Section 10

George Croix

If the crime of possession of illegal goods is ever expanded to include possessing property used by criminals to enable a crime, like, for instance, your lawn, the yardwork money paid out enabling criminal illegal aliens to stay here and continue to be criminals, a lot of two-faced people are going to be buying lawnmowers...quickly...
Invest now in Snapper, Nurray, Honda, etc. now... [wink]

I'm curious, will League City just look the other way when TxDot has to work on the Gulf Freeway within city limits?

Morrow Cummings

My problem is the diseases they are bringing. Wherever they land, they will be spreading lice, scabies, TB, and you-know-what to our elementary students. I, for sure, wouldn't get on a bus if you paid me. I can't think of any human that would get on a bus now. And all this is "to show those rascally Republicans that Obama rules". What it really boils down to is more Dem voters. The 16 &17 yr-olds will be voting in the '16 General Election.

Marc Edelman

Is this really a municipal issue? It seems to me this is a federal and possibly a state Issue. Last time I checked, it was up to the federal government to protect our boarders from illegal immigration. Sounds like more grounds for a lawsuit against the city. Doesn't anyone remember the last time League City tried to stop day laborers from congregating? $500,000.00 later the City had to cease and desist all activities that prevented day laborers from congregating regardless of their citizenship status. I am not in favor of illegal immigration, but this is not the city's issue.

Carlos Ponce

When the Executive Branch of government is not doing its job it is time for the people to speak up. The Border Patrol has spoken up. Governor Rick Perry has spoken up. Democratic Congressman Henry Cuellar has spoken up. Other politicians on both sides of the aisle have spoken up. President Obama comes to Texas - on a fund raising trip.

Centerpointe Moderator

Of course it's not a municipal issue, but it's not in LC's current collective character to miss an opportunity for political grand-standing (as other local issues languish for lack of attention).

Mr. Ponce! Mr. Ponce! How do you thing "Uncle Sugga" is going to fulfill his destiny and pad his legacy if he does not let those aliens in? You know what I'm talking about!!
He wants to be known as the most generous "UNCLE SUGGA" to ever served! So his intentions seem to e to drag his feet just as he has been doing, on every issue! His Modus Operandi is to hesitate, and study, for years while talking and if not that then to be REACTIVE instead of being PROACTIVE. People can say what they want, this country is in turmoil, and it's leadership is "JACK-UP!" Call this hate if you want to. If you do, ask the election headquarters to send all the thousands of dollars of support back to me and I will allow it! ( won't get mad about it. )
Yeah I went with the flow, the first time, but you don't "EVOLVE" on JBG and expect him to vote for you again and send you support a second time! Please don't think that is okay. "IT IS NOT OKAY!" Our leadership in DC is totally dysfunctional! NOBODY works with NOBODY!!!!! It is all about me,...mine, and I!!! ( The Unholy Trinity ).
It beats me why terrorists are not flooding in from the southern borders of this country, because it is in such a mess! If this government cannot stop illegal aliens, from flooding in here, WHAT MAKE ANYBODY THINK IF A GROUP OF TERRORISTS WANTED TO INFILTRATE IN, WE COULD CATCH THEM?
Let me add this, I will give anybody the shirt off my back and I mean that, I don't care how you look, or what color you are, but I agree with those on this forum who says we need to stop this endless flooding of individuals crossing over the borders breaking the laws of this country! You cannot have it both ways! If people are being slaughtered by a bunch of shiftless drug lords in South America, then send troops to go down there and hunt them down like the cowards they are, and let justice prevail!
It is a right way and a wrong way to do anything! it would seems that every big issue which comes to the forefront now, the leaders in DC are *&(**& it up, and then trying to make a feeble excuse! IF YOU CANNOT DO THE JOB THEN GET OUT!!!!!! Let somebody else try! They knew it was not going to be a PICNIC when they went up there!!!
Don't stop me now, I'm on a roll! Dr. King! You will get to the mountain top!!! That was not all he said! That is what many people want to quote or remember! He also said this:
"If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures, sweep streets like Beethoven composed music, sweep streets like Leontyne Price sings before the Metropolitan Opera. Sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry. Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to pause and say: Here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well."
lastly I want to say this, If I cannot comply with what the good Reverend said about sweeping streets, being a business manager, being a policeman, being a manager over computer techs, "IF I HAD NOT BEEN ONE OF THE TOPS OF WHAT I WAS DOING, I WOULD HAVE QUIT AND WALKED OF THE JOB!"
I refuse to embarrass myself by being mediocre or incompetent! NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!!!

J. Shaffer

As Carlos pointed out, it's a Bush era decision to let unaccompanied minors stay. I don't recall the law having a quota, though, determining how many were allowed under that particular law. Probably because there isn't one.

The president's hands are tied because of this law but he has made clear his wish to send them back. Calling him things like 'boy president' is disrespectful, fails to acknowledge his position on the matter and divisiveness and name calling prevents us from actually working together to solve this problem.

"How do you thing "Uncle Sugga" is going to fulfill his destiny"

JBG, I really expected better from you. I'm disappointed at what appears to be a racist attack on our POTUS. I'm ashamed for you.

As for your concerns about disease, the government is hiring medical personnel as fast as they can to screen and immunize these children when they surrender themselves at the border. Note, too, that surrendering to Border Patrol is not 'sneaking in'. I already know one nurse who is on her way right now to help as part of the government action to keep us safe.

Wouldn't it be nice if we worked TOGETHER to solve this crisis, rather than calling each other names?

Albert Redmond

Last week the President stated that they would be sent back to their home countries. He has received push back from various special interest groups, however and an ambiguity has arisen as to whether this can be accomplished because of the law which was passed in 2008. This law was narrowly written and enacted specifically to deal with the sex trafficking of minors and provides that early deportation cannot be accomplished from countries with non-contiguous borders to the US and that hearings must be scheduled.

The thousands that are coming through our border are all claiming refugee status due to violence in their respective countries. The ones that are being transported to various parts of the US for family reunification are given notices to reappear for their hearings, but it has been reported that they do not show up and when officials go to the addresses provided by them, they are not there. Do any of us really believe that there will be thousands and thousands of hearings to determine whether they will be deported?

At this point in time, this fiasco has been implemented for purely political reasons – PERIOD.

J. Shaffer

Everyone points fingers of blame and cause.... anyone got a solution?

We could talk to the government of those countries:

"US Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson will visit Guatemala Tuesday for talks on the flood of Central American child migrants entering the United States, his department said Monday."

We could also acknowledge that just TODAY Guatemala got hit with a 6.9 magnitude earthquake and now has it's own crisis to deal with.

Instead of worrying that they might give us diseases, we could admit that housing them in mass centers will actually increase the potential for the spread of disease. Poor access to adequate hygiene will always exacerbate problems.
Taking them out of mass centers doesn't increase disease risk, it reduces it.

They all need to be screened, fingerprinted, examined, whether they stay or not, and that takes money and time. Sending them back is a logistical nightmare that also requires money and time.

Now, without blame, does anyone ELSE have any actual solutions?

Uncle Sugga is not a racist name mam. He earned that name, and I think he worked hard for it. If he would've ventured along twenty years earlier I might have missed the boat myself. Fortunately for me, my parents taught me early on to not ever, be a burden to nobody! They taught me to work hard for what I wanted, or got! They taught me it did not matter what I ended up being, but whatever that was, be one of the BEST doing it!
No need to be ashamed for me Nurse, nor be embarrassed for me, because that is EXACTLY how I feel about what is going on in Washington DC! Just telling it like it is! Another thing, Bush Laws or any other laws which our leaders have the ability to change or override, should NOT hinder them from doing the right thing for this country!
It has gotten a little Old and Antiquated at this point in this administration, to keep harping on President Bush! I don't want to hear it! THEY NEED TO DO SOMETHING!!! Quit alibiing. "BOOGERJIVING" or making excuses! Quit making promising and then "EVOLVING" away from them after you have received votes and support from those you made the promises to!
Now! I say again, just because you have arrived at the Mountain Top, is not smashing, good, and something to beat your chest about. The reason is AFTER you get to the Mountain Top, you must adhere to Responsibility, and Accountability, which will be ever present to measure you for a GARMENT of success, or incompetence! It is plain to see which garment is being hand tailored in this case!
Lastly, I do respect your opinion, and I am mystified as to why mine is so hard for you to accept. However, I stand on what I have posted. I would also ask a small favor of you, and that is to ........have a nice, prosperous day.
I Samuel 15:11
"It repents me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and has not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried to the LORD all night."
I too repent of the day I voted for this man's first term, and not only that the support I gave toward it. All that to have him wave his hand one day, and pull off his mask of deception, and saying to me and hundreds of thousands of others like me, ..."I HAVE EVOLVED!" "SORRY!" That is not "OKAY" with me!

J. Shaffer

Oh, I see, you didn't mean it as racist so it isn't. Uh, huh.

With all the preaching, I didn't hear you offer any solutions.

J. Shaffer

Not a combination of referencing Uncle Tom's Cabin and Sugar Daddies but a little 'friendly' name calling.

Another thing!!! It bothers the **&^ out of me to hear somebody who always seems to have a ready made, throw-down excuse for not producing, with "I CAN'T coming out of their mouths continuously! "I CAN'T DO THIS!" "I CAN'T DO THAT!"
Many times they are actually meaning "I WON'T DO THIS OR THAT!" There is no difference between a man who CAN'T or one who WON'T!!! They both are in the proverbial canoe with a hole in the bottom, floating over the watery cliff of INSIGNIFICANCE and FAILURE!

You want a solution? Do you really want a solution? Okay try this solution. This administration needs to quit posturing for the minority vote, Hispanic primarily, and enforce the laws on the books by closing the borders crossings of illegals and any terrorists who might get enough savvy to come across with the endless numbers of illegals who are now walking in,....some in BROAD DAYLIGHT!!!
If that is not doable, then send a couple of Brigades of Airborne Army Specialists down South cooperating with law enforcement down their in the refugees' respective countries, and wipe out the reigning drug lords and crooks who are causing all this upheaval in this country! To say, what is happening, ( the non security of our borders ) is not a threat to the national interest of America, would be ludicrous and unconscionable!
I would imagine there are many ways this could be accomplished, but this administration, has so far accomplished nothing, but to BLAME Mr. Bush like I see you doing! Also don't get peeved at me because I don't support Mr. Obama, it is enough that YOU support him. Be happy about that, because I do not support him! He is obsessed with "GIVE AWAYS" and this is why America is not hard-core and determined as it use to be. It has grown SOFT, and FAT because of people like Obama, Harry, and Nancy! People don't have to work anymore here! Word has gotten out, and the refugees around the world want some of these "GIVE AWAYS" too.
Government dependent! Many homes in America are the same way! The kids from many homes, where the kids' ages ranges sometimes in the 30-40 year range are still not SELF-SUFFICIENT, and they cannot live on their own, without parent support! Why? DADDY-SUGGA and MAMA-SUGGA, that's why! So we have an UNCLE-SUGGA. What's strange about somebody acknowledging that?
That's not strange. What strange is we have this kind of BS prevalent in this country in 2014 no less. This country is wrong Train going the WRONG WAY!

Correction**** last paragraph.

Should be:
This country is on the wrong Train going the WRONG WAY!

George Croix

National Guard, to border, send ALL back. Period. For now.
Could be done TODAY by 'executive order'....
But, we shouldn't need a solution, because there should be no problem at the border, because for years the President and his Sec. of Homeland Secuirty have been assuring us that the border IS secure, and THAT was their basis for demanding 'comprehensive' immigration reform.
Seems we've been fibbed to...again...

If Mr. Obama did an executive order for which he IS NOW FAMOUS for,....he thinks that would ruin Hillary's chances in 2016 with the Hispanic and Black vote! So he is not about to do something sensible like that! See it is all politics! It is not about doing the right thing, it never has been. Sad but true.

George Croix

My memory isn't all that good anymore, but I recall we elected a President Obama, not a Perpetually Campaigner Obama, and certainly did not elect a 'Campaigning for Hillary Obama', because she'd already been thrown under the bus by the politically correct folks who figured race trumped sex, BOTH then candidates being equally unaccomplished in actual deed, and both equally circumspect about it.
Now that Hillary has begun her 'shadow candidacy' by stepping in poo...several times...look for Pres. Obama to soon learn what the exhaust system on a Bluebird looks like from up close and personal, once she starts ratting him out for the last years to try and salvage her own 'baton passing'...[wink]

One thing you can bet, if these illeagl aliens were arriving in Hawaii in boats and blocking the pathway to the Pres.' favorite multi-million buck vacation sites, they'd already be on their way back home...

So, he's NOW going to go talk to Perry. Well, that's good...but he's been talking for 5 1/2 years and hasn't said anything yet that fixes squat, just makes it worse or cost more.
Besides, he went to Mexico and never ONCE mentioned them holding a U.S. citizen in prison since March, so that pretty much establishes which country's people he's more concerned about for now...
AND, after ignoring laws he doesn't like for years, he's now blaming Bush for this influx of illegals, and saying he's 'required by law' to not deport them right away. But he said he'd ask Congress to give him the authority. THEN he said he'd delay doing so...
Obama...once again proving to be an empty suit always, always, looking for a straw man to wrap himself around...

Victor Krc

Well, we can all look to our elected representatives that passed the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act during the Bush administration.

The law was designed for the admirable purpose of combating the sexual and labor exploitation in this country of illegal alien children brought across our borders for that purpose. The bill was passed unanimously in the House and Senate and signed into law by President Bush.

Unfortunately political opportunism and, I suppose the law of unintended consequences, has made a certain provision of this legislation a means of circumventing the purpose of this legislation and directing it to ends not intended by the legislators. Sound familiar?

The law has a loophole that says that unaccompanied migrants under the age of 18 from countries that do not border the US can apply for an asylum hearing in the "least restrictive setting that is in the best interest of the child".

This is not citizenship, but leaves the door open in the event of any future amnesty.

As I said, this law is to protect child migrants from labor and sexual exploitation, but this is not the case here. But this is where President Obama is basing his putative authority for discretionary executive orders.

The "coyotes" that are bringing these children over are PAID by the children's parents or relatives and are NOT brought over for the purposes of labor or sexual exploitation.

President Obama has said that "I take executive action only when we have a serious problem, a serious issue, and Congress chooses to do nothing".

The problem is that the framers of the Constitution gave the president the power of executive orders to manage the federal bureaucracy for the purpose of enforcing laws and not to usurp the powers of Congress. The Supreme Court has slapped his hands several times for his overreach, the latest being his abuse of the recess appointment powers in connection with appointees to the National Labor Relations Board.

According to a recent Gallup pole only 31 percent of Americans approve the president's approach to illegal immigration. Sixty percent of Democrats are happy with him, but only 8 percent of Republicans. Only 25 percent of independents agree with his approach.

The American people get to say who there president is, but the president doesn't get to say who the American people is.

Great information vic krc! List me with that 75% of Independents who are highly dissatisfied with Mr. Obama's job performance overall. Harry too! Nancy let me down! I don't know what to say, she just let me DOWNNNN!!!!!!

J. Shaffer

"As I said, this law is to protect child migrants from labor and sexual exploitation, but this is not the case here."

Vic, do you believe there were children coming here with the knowledge that they would be used in this way, or is the reality that they are vulnerable after they get here? Methinks it's the latter; these children are just as much at risk of being exploited as any other minor child without protection.

It's not blame to point out that the law was signed by Bush, either, just pointing out facts (without name calling, I might add).

And JBG, everyone on the forums knows how much you love to quote scripture. Are you Jewish? I can't help but notice that the only quote you reference here is from the Old Testament. There is a more recent one, the .... uuuh.... New Testament, the one Christians are supposed to follow.

Some of the more salient points from that book?
Luke 10:36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”

37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

Matthew 25:40
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Or is religion just convenient when corporations have it?

I doubt starting another useless 'war on drugs' in another country will help our finances any, and war can hardly improve the living conditions there, either.

So let's agree that your Christian attitude is to start a war and then send children back to Guatemala where the cinder block hovel without running water they called home is now demolished by an earthquake.

Victor Krc

Nurse Jayne, where do you draw the line?

I understand that parents are paying as much as $5,000 to send their children over. As a parent and grandfather, I cannot imagine parting with my child or granddaughter and paying that kind of money, especially if I was living hand-to-mouth, if I wasn't reasonably sure my child would be safe. I would be willing to bet that the overwhelming majority of these children have close relatives already in this country and this will be the basis for there claims of asylum under the terms of the legislation I referred to above.

I grant that there are appalling living conditions in Central America, as is also the case in Africa, India, South America and numerous other areas of the world.

Realistically, we will always have the poor among us and just as we are seeing that we cannot be the world's policeman, so also we cannot be the world's social worker.

We have our limits as to what we can do. We can encourage and exert pressure on the various governments around the world to reform the political institutions in their countries that make life so miserable for so many, but we cannot force them to.

Where do you draw the line? You have to admit that there is a limit to our capacity to absorb immigrants, that is why we have immigration laws, and in fact all countries control there borders for the benefits of their citizens, not just us.

As far as the appeal to religion, a great Englishman journalist and essayist named G.K. Chesterton said: "it's not that Christianity has been tried and found wanting, it's that Christianity has not been tried". It's is very easy to quote Scripture for our purposes, but how many people would fall on the sword for nameless strangers? It is too hard, and I would be very suspicious of anyone who said that they would. Remember what Peter said to Jesus about denying him before Peter did that very thing, three times.

I believe the children should be treated humanely while they are here, but should be returned to their homes.

Well, NurseJane since you are so open to saving everybody, what about those who are left behind in all those countries? What do we do about them? Are you going to cherry pick your love for these who crash the border, breaking our laws, and let everybody else South of the border fin for themselves?
I'm talking about securing the borders from everybody who is not suppose to enter, unless authorized, and if you cannot understand the importance of that then, that is your problem!
You want to talk Scripture? Lets talk scripture then, naw .....lets talk New testament scripture! Roman 13:1-4
1) Obey the government, for God is the one who put it there. All governments have been placed in power by God. 2) So those who refuse to obey the laws of the land are refusing to obey God, and punishment will follow. 3) For the authorities do not frighten people who are doing right, but they frighten those who do wrong. So do what they say, and you will get along well. 4) The authorities are sent by God to help you.
What is so conflicted about this situation is the Government we have now is in violation of it's own LAWS ON THE BOOKS! THIS government is not conforming to it's own laws, by playing the political posturing game! ( Oh talk back to me if you can? )( Oh I got some more for you!!!!!)

Here is another one and you should send this one to "Uncle Sugga" Nem in DC!
2 Thessalonians 3:10:

"For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”
We need to get all the welfare cheats, and others who are gaming the system under Obama's administration and put them to WORK! I know this bothers you, but I'm not taking it back! Get this, I don't give a 25 cent "RIP" if they are Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, or Pink-Polka Dot.

Yes I'm Jewish! I have a Jewish brother from ANOTHER MOTHER!!!!!!!!!!![beam]

J. Shaffer

I've got other things to do besides sit on the forums, JBG. I've mowed the lawn, picked figs, delivered fresh laundry, shopped for feta (God may not love figs, but I do, with feta and prosciutto) and caught the first half of the soccer game.

As for your scripture, follow Romans further to 13:8
Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

Or Luke 11: 1-4
5And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

But never mind all that: I learned a long time ago that going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

When I needed help as a teenager, I called my pastor. The members of my church, where I was baptized and confirmed, well, they all found something better to do, while a teacher who was much less religious but much more compassionate took me in.

Move forward in time and you might find that I do care for those in other countries. I'll show you pictures from my trip to Honduras; while many prefer to sit in a hammock and enjoy the diving, I spent my first week there building a church annex. I observed first hand the poverty that exists there. One of the "Christians" I went with who provided funds for the trip clearly felt that money meant he could disregard "Thou Shalt Not Steal" and "Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness," as he had no problem getting drunk, stealing a golf cart while he was there and then blaming another member of the trip for the theft.
A Good Christian Indeed.

As for those in need here in our country, you are welcome to join me on Saturday mornings on the Island, when many groups gather to help the homeless.... and they don't ask about citizenship, either.

You have your opinion and I have mine. That is that! What I do in regard to the homeless, hungry, incarcerated, and widows is of no concern nor significance to what is going on here concerning the inept handling of our immigration problem. So I won't demean my acts and response to those in need by BRAGGING on them as you seem to be doing now!
My position on "UNCLE SUGGA" remains the same! So deal with it!!!!!

Jim Forsythe

What have you done today to make America a better place?
Have You written Your Congress person , Representatives, President?
Until these people become unconformable with what is going on, nothing will change It's up to us to make them want to change what is going on by putting heat on them. Don't try to put it on one D.C. person as most are not trying to get anything done. They only want to blockade each other.
It's us vs. them and we are losing. Don't give any of them slack, even the ones You voted for if they are not doing what You want. If they are doing a good job let them know.

George Croix

Jim, what's going on now, and now is what hand we play, is in great part a result of a my way or the highway style of leadership.
The highway won....[wink]
You're right in your comments above, but 'We won!' followed by daily speaches badmouthing anyone disagreeing with you on anything is not the stuff of even adulthood, much less statesmanship.
What would have been your actions if I'd told you at work to do what I want and shut up about it, and don't give me any of your opinions because my mind's made up? Then told everybody on the shift that you were just trying to interfere with me, and then went out and drove around town and told everyone I could get within earshot of the same thing. THEN griped because you didn't want to work with me...!!
You're an honest guy..always have been...so I already know the answer...
It's supposed to be the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch, not the King and his Court. A President, any President, needs to remember that other elections count just as much as his own did. And Congress is supposed to be a House and a Senate, but you'd never know it to hear the daily remonstrations against 'Congress' as 'obstructionist'....completely ignoring that weasel from Nevada who has essentially shut down the Senate for the last 3 1/2 years, making it the place where legislation that once would at least have been discussed, goes to die. Including some two dozen or more 'jobs bills'. Of course, that 'obstructionist' label wouldnt be possible if We the People had passed 7th grade civics, and cared enough to remember how our own government is supposed to work.
I could tell our President that he should learn how to work with people, and listen to them, and sometimes admit they are right and he is wrong, if he wants them to work with him back...but, do you think he'd listen? Really?
Hey, it worked for me, and it could...could...work for him.
He's got another 2 1/2 years to do something positive benefitting all citizens of this country to blunt the likelihood of his being one of the top three to five worst Presidents in the nation's history.
Wanna bet a cold Diet Coke that will happen...

That aside for a moment, have you heard the latest?
We're going to have to rename the Rose Garden the Weed Garden....[wink]
Something to do with mother Goose.... [beam][beam][beam][beam]

Until we as a people take back the Senate and Congress who's President does not matter. Until we demand D.C. work for us we will keep getting the same results. If in 2016 Republican wins the oval office, things will not change. Have You looked at the candidate's for President that have declared for 2016, not good

"let everybody else South of the border fin for themselves?"

"Are you going to cherry pick your love for these who crash the border,"

Only because you accuse me of turning my back do I defend my position with actions instead of words. I didn't brag, I asked you to join us.

As Mother Goose said, "A man of words and not of deeds is like a garden full of weeds."

Carlos Ponce

Quotes by Percy B. Green
“A man of words and not of deeds
Is like a garden full of weeds
And when the weeds begin to grow
It's like a garden full of snow
And when the snow begins to fall
It's like a bird upon the wall
And when the bird away does fly
It's like an eagle in the sky
And when the sky begins to roar
It's like a lion at the door
And when the door begins to crack
It's like a stick across your back
And when your back begins to smart
It's like a penknife in your heart
And when your heart begins to bleed
You're dead, and dead, and dead indeed.”
Nurse Jayne, we don't have enough money nor resources to take care of our own, much less the rest of the world. What about the hundreds of children killed by violence in Chicago despite having the strictest gun control laws in the nation?

I don't follow MOTHER GOOSE! I'll cook a goose or a duck for dinner! lolololololololol!!!!

The scripture for what you tried to tell me is in James 1:22.

"But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves."
Now, since I gather you are fading into a TIt for Tat ....game here, this will be my last response concerning this with you. So we will just have to agree to disagree. I did not change you and you did not change me. We will just have to bear it and go on. Bye!

If it is true that there are 11 - 15 million illegal immigrants living in this country then it is, to me, painfully obvious that this influx happened over many years, during which time each party had control at one time or the other over the legislative and executive branches. Apparently neither party could or would stem the tide of violations of our immigration laws.

To put it crudely, but accurately I think, the democrats wanted voters and the republicans wanted cheap labor.

Now that we have this mess, what are we going to do about it?

To my mind, we have to get serious about border security, which neither party was serious about in the past, to stem the drain on our resources.

Then we are going to have to deal with the illegal immigrants that are here and find some way to offer citizenship to those who have proven themselves to be productive and responsible in our society. I know it is not ideal since these people broke our laws to get here, but lets be practical, can we deport millions of people, many of whom have put down roots in our society?

Anybody have other alternatives?

George Croix

Vic, step one would be to get people a clue about the difference between immigration, and invasion...[wink]
But, seriously, your points are well taken.
Problem is, we've got half of us willing to believe anything we are told, and the other half not having any of it. A fact of the current push for 'comprehensive immigration reform' is that we are no more border secure now than we ever have been. Problem with that is long winded and has multi-places to lay blame, for sure, but we have to deal in 2014 reality, not excuse the now because of the before. Fact is we've been listening to how 'secure' the border is, and a great wailing and gnashing of teeth because we have not had 'comprehensive immigration reform'...whatever the hell that's supposed to mean. Because, it means NOTHING as long as the reality of the border status is what we see right now...today...lies exposed...long delayed attention come home to roost big time...
Until the border IS secure, until armed guards turn away would-be illegal aliens from ever entering our borders, and then permanent impediments, enforced impediments, physically enforced to whatever extent is needed to STOP illegal entry, are erected and USED, we will NEVER get any immigration legislation passed. Because, imho, enough of the people can see that their pants leg is wet and know that rain isn't yellow, as what we can see right now by turning the toob on has brought out clearly, and put the lie to the narrative of diversion and blaming anybody and everybody, yet doing squat.
Once the border is secured (actually, imho, a pipe dream for at least another 2 1/2 years, because the President's decision so far has been not to decide...and will no doubt stay that way...as usual...) yes, we COULD deport every single illegal alien in this country. if we can give Solyndra a few billion we can hire people to round up illegals and ship 'em out.
But, we won't...there's no stomach for it and we'd need the money from about a hundred Solyndra debacles to do it.
So, compromise...
With REALLY secured borders, the folks here now are locked in as well as the ones outside woudl be.
Do this: Issue a national directive with full force of Executive and Legislative branches backing(another hurdle...) that EVERY person who entered the nation illegally has 3 months, maybe 6, to register themselves and give a real address and real info.
After that, anyone who hasn't done so, and who gets caught not having done so, gets immediately, like today, shipped back across our border. Permanently. The punishment for non-compliance HAS to be severe, or it will be ignored. Just like the law now is.
Thsoe who DID comply, likely the majority, in the many millions, go to the back of the line to become citizens, and until they become citizens, they lose all 'entitlements' they are getting now, whcih should be reserved for our citizens.
That will weed out a few million more who are only here for what they can get.
Those left, living within the law...welcome.
They become part of a long, proud history of legally created U.S. citizens from the ranks of the huddled masses yearning to breath free, not the hiding masses yearning to live off the system illegally.
Works for me...

Good points, and I cannot argue with them.

I particularly agree with your last paragraph about legal aliens that immigrated to this country.

My grandparents were immigrants and came to the US in the latter part of the 19th century and settled in the Fayette County area and took up farming.

They came from what is now the Czech Republic.

They knew very little, or no English but they were eager to assimilate and make their way in this country.

My parents and aunts and uncles spoke both Czech and English but my father did not want my sister and me to learn Czech. He said that we were Americans and we spoke English. I know there are arguments both ways about that attitude, but that was the way he saw it. That is why I get my teeth on edge when I come across people that are living in this country and enjoying the benefits thereof but deliberately do not want to assimilate. It seems to me that all they have on their minds is Reconquista. The problem is that if the old country is so great, then why come here? Since you are here, make something of yourself and improve this country.

We called ourselves Americans, not Czech-Americans. Many people now days are so hung up on silly hyphenated identities that they have lost track of what this country is all about.

Oh well, I'm going to sleep. Its been a long day with my yard work and at the keyboard.

Perhaps there's a chance that illegal immigration will be resolved within the next decade. Perhaps there's a chance that the sun may begin rising from the West.

Seeing that there aren't likely to be many solutions to the issue that won't cause negative ripples within the two political bases, and until either side can figure out a solution that, at least, won't harm its base (not caring about the base of the other side), my smart money is on the sun coming up in the West. I may hedge a bit, though with a dollar on the politicians, though. It's hard to pass up the chance for a big payout ;-)

Otherwise, I'm glad the LC Council has solved traffic issues, eradicated crime within the city, secured all the stray dogs and cats, and ensured fiscal solvency well into the next decade. I'm glad they got all that other stuff done so they'd have time to take a symbolic stand on a real American problem. I would hope, however, that, if they really do have all those other issues solved, they'd be spending time on solving the immigration problems. Washington, DC could really use the help.

At least now, I know that when I shop at WalMart, I don't have to worry about getting mugged when I get into my car.
